Arsenal officially unveiled Santi Carzola as their third summer signing, and Arsene Wenger expressed his delight at securing the services of a player who he tried to sign a year ago. “Santi Cazorla is a great signing for us. He is a player with good experience at both club and international level, who will add significant quality to our squad. He is a versatile, attacking midfield player who can play comfortably on either side of the pitch or centrally. He has good pace, is technically gifted and will be a huge asset to Arsenal Football Club. We are delighted that he is joining us,” said Wenger. Cazorla joins his fellow team mates on their pre-season training camp in Germany and could feature in Saturday’s friendly against FC Cologne.

The Spain midfielder knew of Arsenal’s interest in him a year ago, but elected to join Malaga. But this time around when he heard that the Gunners came calling again, the desire to move to north London was made even greater after a few convincing conversations from a couple of former Arsenal stars, and became one that the 27 year old could not resist.

” I am very happy to be here. I think it is a huge club. It is a great step forward in my career and I hope it will be a very good experience. I hope to win trophies here, that is what I want of course.

“I have spoken to Robert Pires because he played with me at Villarreal. Obviously he knew about the rumours of me coming here and always encouraged me to sign. He told me it was a very good club and I was going to enjoy London, the city and the move.

“The same with Cesc Fabregas. He said this was a big club and that I was going to be very happy here, he said I would adapt easily. And I can feel that.”

“There was already some interest a few seasons ago. I remember when I signed for Malaga there was already an interest from Arsenal. It was always a club I liked very much. Because of circumstances in football, things have not gone the way we wanted in Malaga this year but now I am going to have the opportunity to experience the Premier League and to be at a big club. I could not miss this opportunity – I am 27 years old so it was last train I could catch.”

His pace and trickery will be of immense help to a midfield that although boosted with the return of Abou Diaby, will still have to wait until October until Jack Wilshere’s return. Cazorla was a part of the victorious Euro 2012 success with Spain, and having seen the success of his fellow countrymen in the Premiership, is keen to add his own impression in a league that he accepts will pose different challenges.

“There are players like Silva, Mata, Torres and Reina who have been here a long time, so I also talked to them. They have told me that it is great to play in the Premier League, they told me how the games are in England.

“They say it is different to Spain and that is true. You see Spanish players doing well here and that inspires you to come over as well. They have set an example and I hope I will adapt to the league as well as they have.”

” I believe that it’s a great club. Everyone who has played here such as Robert Pires and Cesc Fabregas have spoken very highly about the Club. I think it’s one of the greatest clubs in Europe, it is always fighting for silverware and just for those reasons it is worth trying to play at this club and in the Premier League.

Cazorla was impressed with his new home the Emirates Stadium and Arsenal’s training facilities. He has not been given a squad number as yet, but Arsenal fans can look forward to another dimension for Wenger to call on, as the Gunners aim to challenge on all fronts, and especially in the Champions League.

” The Club has been playing Champions League football for the last 15 years in a row. That is really difficult to achieve and it says a lot about the Club. It has always won titles. It always fights for the Premier League, the FA Cup, the League Cup and, as I said, team-mates I have played with before have spoken very well about the Club. I think you only need to look around and see how it acts to know how big it is. I think there is a very good squad here and that is what we all want. We want to fight for titles and win titles.”
