Arsenal 5 Lincoln City 1
Walcott 45+1, Giroud 53, Waterfall og 58, Alexis 72, Ramsey 75

In the end, it proved to be a routine win for Arsenal who having thrashed Linclon City 5-0 to reach the FA Cup semi-final, now focus on two more wins in this year’s competition with the aim of lifting a record 13th FA Cup. Having endured an early in your face style from the Imps, the Gunners settled to lead at half time courtesy of Theo Walcott’s first half time added on opener. Olivier Giroud doubled his side’s advantage eight minutes after the re-start, with Luke Waterfall’s own goal seeing the visitors 3-0 down just before the hour mark. Further goals, a strong solo run and stunning strike from Alexis Sanchez for number four and Aaron Ramsey coolly slotting in number five, and the victory was assured as Lincoln’s brave FA Cup run had come to an end in North London.

Having shown early energy and closing down the Gunners’ game, Lincoln proceeded to further frustrate their hosts to the loud cheers of the travelling thousands occupying the upper and lower Clock End terraces.

After ten minutes and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain fed Hector Bellerin on the right. He pulled back for Ramsey, who placed his effort low, but just wide of Paul Farman in the Imps’ goal.

Still feeling the aftermath from their midweek Champions League exit, Arsenal were cautious not to further put pressure on their game. They slowly began to grow in confidence and saw Walcott with a volley which Farman palmed onto his post.

With under half an hour of play, Oxlade-Chamberlain came off for Mesut Özil with what was later revealed to be a hamstring injury.

Nathan Arnold then forced a fine save from Cech after running at the Arsenal rearguard. It was a warning, but the shock of a Lincoln owner was not to be.

Ramsey guided an effort wide and now pulling the midfield strings, Özil floated one, which Farman was alert to touch away for a corner.

In first half time added on, Arsenal took the lead. From Kieran Gibbs assist, Walcott placed his shot, which deflected past Farman and that became the platform from which the Gunners would not look back from

After another swift move, Walcott pulled the ball back for Ramsey, but the former Wales captain but skied the ball over the bar.

That player of at times unfortunate fragility, but of undoubted skill, Özil was turning up. His pass to Giroud, saw Farman save low down, and with the ball clipped back in, Gibbs couldn’t guide his reflex header which flew over the target.

After 53 minutes, Alexis played in Bellerin. He fed Giroud who placed in to double the Gunners’ lead. The non league side were now feeling the difference and gulf in quality between the sides and five minutes later Luke Waterfall stabbed past his own keeper for a 3-0 scoreline.

Francis Coquelin replaced Granit Xhaka with Giroud making way for Lucas Perez.

Özil then headed over from Alexis’ cross before the latter ran at the backtracking Lincoln defence to then strike home from 20 yards for a 4-0 scoreline.

That became 5-0 when Ramsey coolly struck from after Alexis cross trickery, and Arsenal were now at Wembley again for a FA Cup semi-final.

Following the loss to Bayern, this game and the result were just what the Gunners needed as they now also look to get back to winning way in the Premier League.
