Arsenal completed the signing of France striker Alexadre Lacazette on Wednesday. The former Lyon man signed a five year deal for an initial fee reportedly to be £45 million and rising to £52 million with add ons. Lacazette competed a medical on Tuesday and becomes the Gunners’ second summer signing following the arrival of defender Sead Kolasinac from Schalke. Lacazette is now Arsenal’s record signing, surpassing the £42.4 million paid for Mesut Özil from Real Madrid.

Lacazette was second top scorer in Ligue 1 last season with 28 goals, behind only PSG’s Edison Cavani, and he has scored 129 goals in 275 matches in all competitions since breaking into the first team in the 2009-10 campaign.

Arsenal can expect plenty of goals from a player who former striker Charlie Nicholas likened to Nicholas Anelka, with a generous nod in the direction on Ian Wright.

In his last five seasons from 2016/17 in France, Lacazette has netted 37, 23, 31 and 22 goals respectively and any player who gives you 20 plus goals a season will help keep your side at the top and that is what Arsene Wenger will be aiming for with his fellow country man.

” We are very happy to have Alexandre join our group. He has shown over a number of years that he can score goals and that he is a very efficient finisher. As well, he has very interesting technical qualities and a strong character. So he is a guy who is a great addition for us, and someone who will help us challenge at the top level this season, ” Wenger said on the club’s official site.

The club haven’t yet announced Lacazette’s squad number.
